The site of the Medieval city is situated in 0,6 km to the North North East from Enbekshy modern village of the Karasay region of Almaty oblast. The monument was surveyed in 2005 by the Almaty Prospecting Expedition of the Institute of Archaeology of A.Kh. Margulan. The monument was found on the territory of mixed landscape, in 4,5км to the north of the highway of Almaty - Bishkek, on the right and steep bank of Karasu River.
The ruins of the Medal Ages urban site situated in the northern part of a valley between foothills of Northern slopes of Ily Ala Tau and local hill territory. Territory is located on border between zones of active irrigational agriculture of a fertile foothill valley and the dry steppes intended for nomadic cattle breeding. The ruins of the medieval urban site, square in the plan, the sizes 190 x 190м, were enclosed with fortifications. Fortifications and the remained fragments of structures were built from the pakhsa (big adobe) bricks.
There are angular towers and by 4 towers on the wall line, and from the site of a wall turned to the steep river bank – 2 towers remained till now days. Remains of four gates are traced in a middle part of walls. The hill, the sizes 20 x 15m, height at 3-4 m is adjoined to the gates aperture from North side. Possibly, it is the watchtower remains. The best safety of walls at the Northwest corner (with the height near 8м). From the West side of a wall traces of an external ditch are traced.
The occupation layer and internal face of a wall (especially South-western site) are damaged by technical equipment. The collection of the fragmented kitchen and tare ceramics here is collected during inspection of the site. It represents splinters of khums and khumcha (big and average jugs for keeping food), coppers, jugs, cups, drinking bowls, etc. According to the ware which was found, the Medieval city arose in the period of the Karakhanid state (XI - the beginning of the XIII centuries) and functioned and in the post-Mongolian time (the XIII-XVI centuries). However, now there is more and more evidence saying about that this Medieval city emergence during the Early Turkic period.
The monument site away from group of the ancient settlements marking routes of the Great Silk Road, allows considering this strengthened settlement as a rate of medieval governors of the region. Its topography expressed in a form and the device of entrances, the area size, system of internal building, is very close to other Medieval cities of the Ily Valley. As well as in other areas, this city rate held key position in the foothills and played a part in development of medieval caravan tracks in northern slopes of Ily Ala Tau.
