The burial ground is situated 2 km to South-West from the modern settlement of Shamalgan in Karasaysky region of Almaty area. The site was surveyed in 2005 by Almaty Prospecting Expedition of the Institute of Archeology of A.Kh. Margulan. The burial ground situated on a high terrace of the left bank of Shubarat River.
The burial ground represented group of barrows of the middle and small sizes, making a chain length 760м, extended from the South to the North. The small barrows forming 2 short chains are to the West from the main. 16 barrows were excavated. Upper tomb constructions of simple members of society - stone and soil constructions with ring fence at the edge. The funeral construction consisting of a rectangular reaching hole and side camera “podboy”, dug out under the northern wall – situated under the embankment. In all funeral constructions the body lying ceremony was tracked. Orientation of the buried is the head to the West.
Upper tomb constructions of the nobility - diameter 25-35M, height 2,5-3,5M. Embankments are multilayered. Single funeral constructions under an embankment. Buried in two barrows accompanied with burial of a dog along with bones of animals.
Artifacts originated from barrows are presented on separate categories of subjects:
Ceramic. The most mass material from the burials, over 70 copies. In a form the ware is presented: jugs, mug, covers, bowls, tiny vessels and cups. Among them separate ornamented samples.
Jewelry. There are a various beads from a stone, pastes and bones; bronze mirrors, iron and bronze hairpins, iron ensued plaques, gold earrings, etc.
Arms. To this relate: iron daggers, plug and stake arrow heads from a bone, iron large axe, a leather quiver, and also attributes of a fighting type-setting belt.
The subjects executed in the Scythian and Siberian Animal style. To this type relates: bronze buckles from belt zone with images plaques with images of fantastic animals, bone heads of weaponry and sacral objects in the form of the heads of animals of cat's breed and so-called uncertain things.
The studied burial grounds in limits of Saka – Wusun Period, the VI-III centuries BC are dated. However the culture of barrows has essential distinctive features from Saka – Wusun Culture of that time of Semirechye. They are shown both in funeral ceremonies, and in funeral stock.
