The summit is the last in the Kumbel spur. Its northern slopes go down into the Kokzhaylyau stow. The southern slopes face the Tersbutak gorge, a tributary of the Bolshoe Almaty gorge. Eastern and north-eastern slopes belong to the Gorelnik gorge. The name "Kumbel" is translated as a sand (dry) ridge, and indeed, the name exactly matches the topography of the ridge. The summit is visible from the city of Almaty and is extremely popular among tourists as it is located within a weekend trek.
