The big settlement of the Bronze Age is located on Assy Plateau , in 9,5 km to the northeast from the observatory, on the top of the terrace, above the river.
This settlement concentrated a large number of dwellings. The dwellings have some specific features. They are represented by stone half dug-outs. In the Bronze Age this valley was well developed for farming and cattle-breeding. The settlements were fixed in these mountains are large because, despite small villages in a wide open territories of steppe regions, it is of great danger to scatter dwellings all over the area. Each settlement numbered of 10 and more dwellings which protected them from invaders. That is why residents built large living and household constructions, enclosures for cattle. Close to the settlement the river flows - very convenient place for living and economy. The only problem emerges in winter with cold and wind. But dwellings had thick stone walls and were well heated.
Parameters of this dwelling are surprising. It was very difficult to build four-sloped roof on poles for such large house. Construction due to the height of the dwelling was very complicated but convenient for heating and lighting. The height of partitions did not reach the ceiling; they rose up to 2 meters. And light penetrated from the outlet in the roof in warm period, or reflected from the hearth spread throughout the rooms. The dwelling was occupied with a large patriarchal family. Exactly every member of the family possessed the individual room. The premises were separated from housing. In the central part of the dwelling, close by hearth, was a large room intended for meals and played a role of the cult centre of the house. For today this settlement of the Bronze Age on the Assy Plateau is one of the largest in the territory of Zhetysu.
