Archaeological complex of Tauchilik - I is situated in 15км to the West from Saty village of Raiymbek region of Almaty area. The archaeological complex was surveyed by the Almaty prospecting expedition of the Institute of Archeology in 2005.
The site is in the western part of a picturesque valley where Shelek River having escaped from a narrow rocky canyon, forms Saty Valley, 25 km long. The archaeological complex is located on the third terrace over floodplain of the left coast of Shelek River at the rocky bottom of Ily Alatau Ridge and consists of the settlement of the Bronze Age and the burial ground of the Early Iron Age.
The burial ground of the Early Iron Age that counts 14 barrows in totals extended in three chains, focused by an axis the Northeast – Southwest. Embankments of barrows were constructed from the soil and stones, flat, become swollen, in the top part are flattened and have robbery traces, covered by turf. Diameters of embankments of barrows from 4 to 12м, from 0,2 high to 0,6м. Ring stone fencings were traced on the basis of embankments of barrows. Distance between barrows from 12 to 52м. Judging by the form of embankments in the form of the truncated cone, the burial ground belongs to the Wusun Period of the Early Iron Age.
The settlement of the Bronze Age was revealed by fragments of the stone bases of dwellings and finding of fragments of ceramics near them and bones of animals. Previously, dwellings were established in two ranks on the river bank of Chilik River, forming the ancient settlement. Contours of 3-4 dwellings which represented rectangular constructions, that have sizes from 4 x 6м to 8 x 12 (?) m were established rather precisely. The total area of the settlement makes near 6000 sq.м. Judging by ceramics fragments, the settlement belongs to Late Andronovo Period and is dated within the XIII-XII centuries BC. The part of fragments of ceramics belongs to the Saka period. The population went in for semi-nomadic cattle breeding to what numerous cattle transit routes by slopes of the mountains, conducting on summer mountain pastures. At the same time, from the territory of the settlement the ancient channel removing water to a surface of a terrace through 3 km that speaks also about visible role of agriculture in economic system of the ancient population.
Possibly, originally the settlement of the Bronze Age is replaced by seasonal site of Saka tribes. Later, during the Wusun period the ancient cemetery here was arranged. Today in the territory of a monument modern seasonal nomadic settlement was arranged.
