The Stone Age (Paleolithic – Neolithic)
The process of settling of the territory of Zhetysu happened in the Old Stone Age in the period of the Paleolith.
Separate finds of pebble stone tools that happened in riverheads of the Charyn River in the modern settlement of Aktogay belong to the Early Paleolithic. Experts attribute the multilayered site of Maybulak, near the village of Fabrichnyi, the Kastek site (on the Kastek River near village of Kastek) to the period of the New Paleolithic.
Separate Paleolithic tools were found in Burgan village of the Zhambyl region of Almaty oblast. Tools of the Middle Stone Age, Mesolithic were found in Kulyktau Mountains in Uzunbulak village.
Few semi-dugouts relating to the Neolithic period – the New Stone Age were also recorded in Maybulak site.
The age of the most ancient instruments of labor of Maybulak site is dated back to the 50 thousand years ago. Stone tools of Kastek and Burgan sites have an age of more than 10 thousand years.
